SIPITANG: The Sipitang District Council (MDS) has stepped up enforcement against littering, issuing fines to individuals caught discarding cigarette butts in public.
An MDS spokesperson said enforcement officers conducted an Anti-Litter Enforcement Operation from 3pm to 4pm at the Sipitang Esplanade, Perkasa Realty, the TBB Building, and Sipitang Plaza.

During the operation, two individuals were found littering by throwing cigarette butts in public areas. Both were issued compounds under the Anti-Litter By-Laws (Uniform) 2010 and were advised to maintain cleanliness and refrain from repeating the offence.
Separately, MDS, in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services, launched an integrated operation on Thursday to control stray dogs and prevent the spread of rabies. The operation began at 8:00am and continued until completion.
The council urged dog owners to keep their pets confined within their properties and not allow them to roam freely.
“Any dog found wandering in public will be treated as a stray by MDS and the Veterinary Department and will be captured,” the spokesperson said.
Captured dogs will be handed over to the Department of Veterinary Services for further action.
Meanwhile, residents and visitors in Beaufort have raised concerns over the increasing number of stray dogs roaming around the town, particularly in the Old Town area, Beaufort Commercial Centre, Beaufort Jaya, and near restaurants and eateries.
They called on the Beaufort District Council to take appropriate action by capturing the stray dogs and handing them over to the Department of Veterinary Services.
