Man missing after fishing trip in Sipitang
Authorities at the scene.
SIPITANG: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched for a 52-year-old man who went missing after failing to return home from a fishing trip at Sungai Takula Besar in Kampung Takula, Jalan Skim Sindumin.

Fire and Rescue Department station chief Desmond Ak Micky @ Dominic said Andrew Udan left home on July 3 with a friend to fish and had informed his family he would return on July 5.

When he failed to return, his son lodged a police report at the Sipitang district police headquarters on July 8, prompting rescuers to begin a search of the river after gathering information from family members.

Desmond said the operation has been hampered by the lack of Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) coverage and communication difficulties in the search area.

The SAR operation, involving the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM), is ongoing and further developments will be announced from time to time.
