Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man was found dead in a locked rented room in Sadong Jaya after firefighters broke through a wall and forced open the door to reach him late Sunday.
The Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department received a call at 9.25pm reporting an unconscious man inside the room.
A 10-member team was dispatched and arrived at the scene four minutes later.
Firefighters broke through a wall and forced open the locked door to gain access to the room.
The victim, identified as Daemon Athanasius, a Malaysian, was found unresponsive. His body was handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 9.50pm after firefighters confirmed there were no further hazards at the scene.
