LABUAN: A Filipino was arrested for an immigration offence during Ops Sasar at a shopping centre here after 55 individuals were screened.
Labuan Immigration Officer Azizan Ma Samali said the operation, held from 11am to 3.50pm, was part of a nationwide Ops Sasar conducted simultaneously across
Malaysia on July 13, involving officers from five Immigration Departments.
The man was placed at the Labuan Immigration Depot for investigation.
Azizan said enforcement action would continue against foreign nationals who breach immigration laws.
He added that employers and premises owners who hire undocumented foreign workers would also face prosecution, with penalties of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 in fines, up to 12 months’ jail, or both, for each worker.
