Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the detention under Section 3(1) of the LLPK Act followed detailed investigations based on statements from five witnesses who linked the suspect to drug trafficking activities since 2025.

Investigators believe the suspect, known by the nickname “KingKong”, was involved in distributing syabu with an estimated sales value of RM204,200.

Police also seized a Proton Waja believed to have been used in connection with the drug trafficking activities.

Champin said the preventive detention was carried out after approval was obtained from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

“There is no such thing as a ‘small fry’ in the fight against drugs. Even those involved on a small scale will be tracked down and dealt with firmly,” he said.

He added that individuals identified as being involved in drug trafficking could face action under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985, in addition to prosecution under other relevant laws.

Champin said Beaufort police would continue to intensify operations against drug trafficking syndicates and take stern action against those involved to ensure Beaufort and its surrounding areas remain free from the drug menace.
