Alleged rape: Teen remanded seven days
TAWAU: A 17-year-old local has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation of an alleged rape involving his 15-year-old girlfriend at a budget inn here last Tuesday.

Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin issued the remand order until July 24 following an application by investigating officer Inspector Robiatul Adawiyah Japri to allow police to continue their probe under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape.

Based on the statement produced in court in the remand application, the suspect, who is no longer attending school, was arrested by a team from the Tawau District

Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Department at 2.05pm on Thursday (July 16), following a police report lodged by the victim and her 28-year-old brother.

The victim’s brother discovered that his sister had not attended school after checking with her class teacher, despite her leaving home as usual at about 11.30am on the day of the incident (July 14).

The school bus driver later informed him that the girl had alighted at a pedestrian bridge near the school.

The brother later picked her up from a woman’s house at about 11pm after being informed of her whereabouts.

He then took his sister to the Tawau police station to lodge a report after she claimed that she had met her boyfriend, who allegedly took her to a budget inn where they had sexual intercourse.
