KUALA LUMPUR: Daily Express won the Silver in the Best ESG Journalism category at the Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM) MPI-Petronas 2025 held at The Majestic Hotel here on Friday night.
The recognition was awarded for the “Sabah’s Climate Challenge Series”, a special report by Larry Ralon and Ricardo Unto, which highlighted climate change issues and environmental challenges facing Sabah.

The Gold Award in the category went to Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Sabah for its reports “I-STP Inovasi Baharu Rawat Kumbahan Perkampungan Atas Air” and “I-STP Sistem Kumbahan Moden Didik Masyarakat Jaga Kelestarian Laut”, while TV Sarawak (TVS) received the Bronze Award for its special documentaries “Bakti Bakau”, “Garis Halus Ekologi Buaya & Ruang Manusia” and “Meneguh Tradisi Pentas Opera”.
Also named among the category’s top five finalists were Muhammad Luqman Hakim Md Daim of the New Straits Times for the series “Malaysia’s Growing Light Pollution Threatens Wildlife”, “Light Pollution Guideline In The Works” and “Save The Night Sky For Future Generations, Say Experts”, as well as Tan Siok Thin of See Hua Daily News for “The Right Path Of Energy”.
The MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards is Malaysia’s most prestigious journalism award programme, organised annually by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) to recognise outstanding journalistic works and excellence in the media industry.
A total of 21 categories were contested in this year’s edition, which attracted entries from media organisations nationwide.
