KUALA PENYU: Consumers may soon be able to use their MyKad to purchase subsidised one-kilogramme packet cooking oil under a proposal by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) to strengthen targeted subsidies and curb leakages.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the proposal would be implemented through the Enhanced Cooking Oil Stabilisation Scheme (eCOSS) using the Government's planned rollout of a new MyKad equipped with QR code functionality, expected to be introduced this year.

"We are currently waiting for the National Registration Department to issue the new MyKad, which will come with a QR code required for purchasing subsidised one-kilogramme packet cooking oil," he said after launching the Madani Adopted Village Project for Kampung Selakong under the Kuala Penyu constituency in Menumbok on Saturday.

He said consumers would be able to use either their mobile phones to scan the QR code or their MyKad when purchasing subsidised cooking oil, allowing the Government to digitally record transactions and better monitor distribution to ensure the subsidy reaches its intended recipients.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
Armizan said eCOSS was introduced in 2023 to replace manual record-keeping throughout the subsidised cooking oil supply chain, adding that the Government would continue improving the system while implementing phased subsidy rationalisation measures to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.
