TAWAU: Police seized 11 motorcycles during an Op Samseng Jalanan conducted at three hotspots here on Saturday as part of efforts to curb illegal street racing.

Acting Tawau Police Chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division inspected 55 individuals and 52 vehicles during the operation, with the motorcycles seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said the operation, carried out from 10pm to 2am around Jalan Apas, Jalan Chong Thien Vun and Jalan Kabota, also resulted in 24 traffic summonses being issued for offences including driving without a licence, illegal modifications to exhausts and vehicle structures, and using non-compliant registration plates.

Wilynton said the operation was conducted simultaneously with Op Mabuk, during which a 23-year-old motorcyclist was detained under Section 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987 after an Evidential Breath Analyser (EBA II) test allegedly recorded an alcohol level above the legal limit, while his motorcycle was also seized to assist investigations.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He said police would continue conducting such operations at different locations and times to combat illegal street racing, reckless road users and drink-driving offences, warning that those who deliberately flout traffic laws would face enforcement action.
