Lawyer calls for transparent probe into latest school fall

Kota Kinabalu:  A leading lawyer in the Zara Qairina Mahathir case, Datuk Ram Singh, has called for a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the latest incident involving a female student who fell from the first floor of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha, including whether she suffered a fractured leg and left a suicide note.

He lodged a police report here on Sunday following a statement by the Sabah Education Department that the student was in stable condition and had not suffered serious injuries, as well as the fact that it took two days for the department to confirm the incident.

Ram said incidents of this nature should not happen in schools and that investigations should establish whether there was any possibility of similar cases that may not have been reported.

He said it was difficult to comprehend that another similar incident had occurred before the inquest into the Zara case had concluded, and on the first anniversary of the Zara case.
