Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has proven it possesses world-class medical expertise capable of carrying out highly complex and high-risk procedures, Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said.

He said the successful separation of conjoined twins by the medical team at the Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital (HWKKS) marked a historic milestone for the State’s healthcare sector and showcased the calibre of local medical professionals.

Masidi, who is also State Finance Minister, said the achievement by the team led by Head of the HWKKS Paediatric Surgery Department, Dr Hazlina Mohd Khalid, demonstrated that Sabah has the talent and expertise to undertake procedures previously regarded as extremely challenging.

“The people of Sabah are immensely proud of this achievement because it proves we have the talent and expertise within our own State. When given the opportunity, Sabahans are capable of performing surgeries that were once considered extremely difficult,” he said.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He said this during an appreciation dinner for the HWKKS medical team in recognition of the successful conjoined twins separation surger, on Saturday.

Masidi also conveyed the State Government’s appreciation to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff involved in the historic operation.
