Georgetown: The death toll from the sinking of the MV Barima ferry in Guyana has risen to at least 27, with dozens still missing, Guyanese Prime Minister Mark Phillips said Monday, reported Xinhua.
Sixty-nine survivors have been rescued so far, Phillips told a press conference.

The MV Barima, carrying 116 passengers, sank off the coast of Guyana on Saturday night after sending out a distress signal.
The ferry had been scheduled to travel from the capital Georgetown to Port Kaituma in northwestern Guyana.
The 40-metre-long ferry was built in 1939, according to VesselFinder, a shipping tracker.
