Safma programme strengthens food security
Burhan visits the Labuan Fish Market and the LKIM Fisheries Complex in Labuan.
LABUAN: Safma's Ikan Rakyat Sabah (IRS) programme continues to strengthen food security by providing fresh, quality fish at affordable prices while supporting the livelihoods of local fishermen.

General Manager Burhan Japar said the programme ensures low- and middle-income households have access to quality protein, while helping fishermen increase their income through direct purchases of their catch.

Speaking during the Road to Maha 2026 programme at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex on Saturday, he said IRS also strengthens the fisheries supply chain and supports the sustainable development of Sabah's fisheries industry.

Burhan said Safma's participation in the event promotes the IRS programme, seafood products and business opportunities through its Safma Business Partner registration initiative.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He said Safma will continue expanding the programme in line with the Sabah Blue Economy agenda through cold storage facilities, block ice supply, value-added products, wider distribution networks and Zero Waste Fisheries initiatives.
