Kota Kinabalu: More than 5,000 people took part in the Jom! Malaysia–China 2026 Run at Padang Merdeka on Sunday in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
Participants from across Sabah, including representatives of various ethnic communities, government agencies, businesses, associations, schools and running groups, completed the seven-kilometre run aimed at promoting healthy living and strengthening people-to-people ties.
The event also featured a photo exhibition marking 52 years of Malaysia–China diplomatic relations, showcasing historical milestones in diplomacy, trade and investment, education, culture, tourism and local cooperation since relations were established in 1974.
A total of 249 cash prizes and gifts worth more than RM43,000 were presented during the lucky draw, with the top prize being a one-year Skechers Malaysia running shoe reward package valued at RM5,508.
Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah President Oh Ei Sun said the event, now in its seventh edition excluding a two-year interruption during the Covid-19 pandemic, has become a platform to promote healthy lifestyles while strengthening friendship, cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation between Malaysia and China.
