KENINGAU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) branch here will be upgraded to strengthen service delivery and enhance its enforcement and investigative capabilities in handling corruption cases in Sabah’s Interior Division.
Sabah MACC Director Deputy Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Fuad Bee Basrah said the upgrade would elevate the Keningau branch to the same level as the main branches in Sandakan and Tawau, enabling it to manage operations more effectively.
He said it would also make it easier for residents in Keningau, Tenom, Tambunan, Nabawan, Sook, Sipitang and Beaufort to access MACC services without having to deal with offices located further away.
“We are looking at both current and future needs in carrying out our duties and responsibilities in the area of corruption prevention.
“Therefore, we see the need for the Keningau MACC branch to be upgraded,” he said after attending a meet-and-greet session for the newly appointed head of the Keningau MACC branch, Senior Supt Christopher Noel Nilus Kalitu, with heads of government departments at the Federal House, here.
Mohamad Fuad said the initiative is in line with MACC’s commitment to strengthening integrity, improving service delivery and intensifying anti-corruption efforts nationwide, particularly in Sabah.

He said the branch’s upgrade is also expected to expedite investigation processes, strengthen monitoring of corruption cases and expand the implementation of anti-corruption education and prevention programmes at the grassroots level.
According to him, Keningau’s strategic position as the administrative hub of Sabah’s Interior Division makes it well suited to be strengthened to meet growing operational demands, in tandem with increasing development and economic activities in the surrounding areas.
Earlier in his speech, Mohamad Fuad urged all heads of departments to extend their full cooperation to the MACC in carrying out its duties to ensure transparent, accountable and corruption-free governance.
He stressed that combating corruption requires the commitment of all parties to foster an ethical work culture and enhance public confidence in the delivery of public services.
