RANAU: The 58th Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) Athletics Championship ended after six days at the Ranau District Sports Complex, where more than 1,000 young athletes representing 24 district contingents showcased their determination, talent and sporting excellence.
Tawau emerged overall champions with 21 gold, 14 silver and 9 bronze medals, giving the district a total of 44 medals.
Although Kota Kinabalu amassed the highest overall medal tally of 45, consisting of 16 golds, 16 silvers and 13 bronzes, Tawau secured the championship title by virtue of winning the highest number of golds.
Tambunan finished third with 9 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals, while host Ranau fourth with 8 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals, collecting a total of 28 medals.
Keningau rounded out the top five with 8 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun congratulated all athletes, coaches, teachers, officials and organisers for making the championship a resounding success while reminding the athletes that excellence requires continuous effort and perseverance.

He urged those selected to represent Sabah at the coming Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Championship not to regard their state-level achievements as the pinnacle of success.
“Do not become complacent with your achievements here. The real challenge lies ahead at the national level.
“Continue training with discipline, determination and confidence because you carry not only your district’s hopes but also the pride of Sabah,” he said.
