Tuaran: A crocodile measuring nearly 15 feet was caught in Kg Lampasan, Tuaran, at about 10.30am on Saturday, raising concerns among villagers over the presence of more crocodiles in the river.
A villager, who declined to be named, said the reptile took the bait—a dead chicken—that had been attached to a fishing line set by residents.
However, he claimed that several crocodiles are still believed to be lurking in the river, causing anxiety among villagers over their safety.
“Whenever we go down to the river or head out to sea to fish, we are worried that a crocodile may be watching us,” he said to Daily Express here.
He urged fishermen to exercise extra caution when boarding their boats and to remain vigilant whenever they are near the river. Residents are also concerned about the safety of children who frequently swim in the river, fearing that crocodiles may attack unsuspecting victims.
The villager also advised anglers to be cautious while fishing in the area, warning that crocodiles are capable of attacking people near the riverbanks.

“We are particularly worried about anglers from outside the district or village who may not know that this river is dangerous because of the crocodile threat,” he said.
He suggested that community leaders install warning signboards along the river to alert both residents and visitors to the presence of crocodiles and to remind them to take the necessary precautions, especially where children are concerned.
He also hoped that the Sabah Wildlife Department would take immediate action to capture the remaining crocodiles in the river to ensure the safety of villagers and the public.
