Newborn boy found dead
The newborn baby was found abandoned on the staircase.
PENAMPANG: The body of a newborn boy wrapped in a plastic bag was found on a staircase near a premises in Bundusan, here, Wednesday.

Penampang Police Chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim, who confirmed this, said they received public information at 1.10pm and rushed a team to the scene.

“The baby, believed to have been born some six hours ago, was confirmed dead by a medical team at the scene and his body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu for an autopsy,” he said.

Mohd Haris said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 318 of the Penal Code.

He urged the public who have any information on the incident to immediately contact the Penampang IPD Operations Room at 088-723961 or the Investigating Officer of the Penampang IPD Criminal Investigation Division, Inspector Azerina Ali Omar, at 014-653 5238. Earlier, a deliverer had stumbled upon a package on the stairs with a note “Call the police or Imam” and he immediately alerted the police.
