KUNAK: A six-year-old boy suffered burns to his left leg after a house caught fire in Kampung Kasnuri, Jalan Kunak-Semporna, on Friday night.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohamad Omarbatha said the department received an emergency call through the 999 line at 8.20pm and dispatched nine firefighters to the scene in an FRT, a D-Max and an EMRS vehicle, with the location about four kilometres from the station.
He said the house was destroyed, while a Perodua Kancil and a motorcycle were also gutted in the fire, and firefighters provided initial treatment to the injured child before he was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 9pm using a 200-foot hose line with two nozzles supplied by water from the FRT before the operation ended at 10.17pm.
Police, the Civil Defence Force (APM) and Sabah Electricity personnel were also at the scene, while the cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
