KOTA BELUD: A 25 year old man who was reported missing while crossing a river in Kampung Lebak Engad on Wednesday was found drowned on Thursday.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Elge Bakuk said firefighters received an emergency call at 1.18pm on Wednesday before deploying a rescue team to the scene.
He said the victim was found after a two-day search and rescue (SAR) operation involving several emergency agencies and members of the public.
“On the first day, rescuers carried out a surface search along both riverbanks covering about 100 metres from the spot where the victim was believed to have gone missing before extending the search radius to 500 metres,” he said.
The SAR operation resumed at 8.50am on Thursday, with teams conducting a water surface search using rescue boats while another team searched on foot along the riverbanks.
“The victim was found by members of the public at 6.15pm, about 150 metres from where he was reported missing.
“The body was handed over to the police for further action, and the operation was called off at 6.54pm after firefighters confirmed the area was safe,” he said.
