Kota Kinabalu: The inaugural Sabah Skin Cancer Conference 2026 marked a milestone for specialist care and medical collaboration in the State, bringing together 180 participants from Malaysia and overseas.
The conference was officiated by Deputy State Health Director (Medical) Dr Ridwan Hashim on behalf of State Health Director Dr William Gotulis, who commended the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Sabah Academic Plastics Club (Kaps) for organising the event.
In his speech, William said the conference reflected a strong commitment to advancing clinical expertise, academic exchange and multidisciplinary cooperation in skin cancer management, while stressing the importance of greater awareness, early detection, accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
He said strengthening expertise, capacity building, training and knowledge sharing among healthcare professionals was essential to ensuring timely and appropriate patient care, adding that the State Health Department remains committed to improving the quality, accessibility and sustainability of healthcare services.
The conference featured 13 speakers and included scientific presentations as well as practical sessions such as the PRS Suturing and Scar Management Workshop, with William expressing confidence the event would strengthen future collaboration, research and knowledge exchange to improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
