RM185,000 for Keningau, Nabawan, Sook folks

KENINGAU: A total of RM185,000 has been allocated to eight recipients in Keningau, Nabawan and Sook to support community development, education, welfare and religious initiatives.

The contributions were presented by Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Pensiangan Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, during a presentation ceremony here.

The recipients included the Kampung Minawo Ulu Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT), Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) of SK Kuala Kahaba and SK Binakaan, SMK St. Francis Xavier Keningau, the Keningau branch of the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM), Masjid Al-Amin in Kampung Seri Menanti, Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) Al-Falah in Kampung Murni, Nabawan, and the Welfare and Recreation Club of the Keningau Teacher Education Institute (IPG) Campus.

Arthur said the allocation was aimed at supporting programmes that benefit local communities, including community clean-up activities, school facility improvements, village development projects and initiatives to strengthen ties among residents.

“There are many needs in this area, including community clean-up programmes and efforts to improve facilities in schools and villages. I hope this assistance reaches the intended recipients and is fully utilised to strengthen unity and the spirit of cooperation within the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, SMK St. Francis Xavier Keningau Principal Betty Leong expressed appreciation for the RM40,000 contribution to support the school’s 3R Programme, which promotes reducing plastic use, reusing materials and recycling as part of environmental conservation efforts.

Keningau branch Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association Chairman Pinus Nain Valentine said the contribution would be used for various association activities, including rebuilding its ageing office building and conducting welfare visits to elderly, sick and critically ill veterans.

He said the assistance would strengthen the welfare of veterans while enabling the association to continue community service programmes benefiting former servicemen and their families.

The contributions are expected to enhance community development, improve educational facilities, upgrade local infrastructure and strengthen welfare and religious activities throughout the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency.
