RANAU: A peaceful assembly will be held in Ranau this Saturday to urge the Federal Government to review the eligibility criteria for the Budi Diesel and Budi RON95 assistance programmes, which organisers say should better reflect the realities and needs of Sabahans.
Organising Chairman Datuk Japiril Suhaimin said the gathering aims to provide a platform for the public to express their views on the implementation of the targeted fuel subsidy programmes and to propose improvements to their eligibility requirements.
He said the assembly would be conducted in accordance with the law, with prior notification submitted to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act.
According to Japiril, the objective is to convey the concerns and recommendations of Sabahans to the Federal Government, particularly regarding the eligibility conditions for the BUDI Diesel and Budi RON95 programmes.
He said the organisers believe the existing criteria should be reviewed to better reflect Sabah’s geographical, economic and social circumstances. The assembly is scheduled to take place on Saturday (July 18), from 11am to 12.30pm at Pentas Budaya in Ranau Town.
Japiril invited members of the public to participate voluntarily and to exercise their right to express their views peacefully, responsibly and in accordance with the law.
He emphasised that participants are expected to cooperate fully with the Royal Malaysia Police and other relevant authorities to ensure the gathering proceeds in an orderly, peaceful and respectful manner.
Participants are also encouraged to bring placards and banners carrying factual, courteous and respectful messages, provided they comply with the law and do not contain elements of incitement, defamation or offensive content.
Japiril expressed hope that the assembly would serve as a mature and constructive platform for conveying Sabahans’ concerns over the implementation of the BUDI fuel subsidy programmes.
He said the organisers hoped the gathering would encourage the Federal Government to reassess the eligibility criteria for both programmes to ensure their implementation is more equitable, practical and responsive to the needs of the people of Sabah.
