BEAUFORT: Sabah’s Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBSK) allocated RM6 million to upgrade the Beaufort Sports Complex, including improvements to its football field and athletics track.
Its Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, said this after inspecting the sports complex as part of his statewide tour of sports facilities in Sabah.

He said the visit allowed him to assess first-hand the upgrading works currently being carried out at the complex.
“I am satisfied with the quality of work carried out by the contractor to upgrade the field and athletics track. I have also been assured that the project will be completed by early next year,” he said.
Nizam also commended the management of the Beaufort Sports Complex and reminded them to ensure all facilities are properly maintained.
“I have stressed the importance of managing the complex well to ensure all sports facilities are kept in good condition, particularly in terms of cleanliness. This includes the playing field, other sports facilities and the newly completed covered multipurpose hall,” he said.
He added that any damage to the sports complex should be repaired immediately instead of being allowed to deteriorate further.
Nizam said the ministry has also taken note of requests for additional facilities and shortcomings at the complex, and that the Permanent Secretary and ministry engineers would look into the matter.
He said efforts would be made to secure additional government funding to further improve facilities at the sports complex.
Nizam also thanked community leaders, particularly Klias Assemblyman Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, for their continued support of the ministry.
On preparations for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), he said the State athletes are in good condition and that the State flag handover ceremony to the Sabah contingent would be held soon.
He expressed hope that athletes selected for the final squad would deliver their best performances and achieve success at the Games.
Meanwhile, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Klias Assemblyman Datuk Isnin Aliasnih welcomed the RM6 million allocation, describing it as a major boost for the Beaufort Sports Complex.
He said the upgraded facilities would benefit the people of Beaufort, especially school students, as many school-level sporting events are held at the complex, as well as youths and the local community.
Isnin said future plans include the construction of an indoor sports hall and a swimming pool, which the complex currently lacks.
He said the RM6 million allocation covers the upgrading of existing facilities, while the total investment could increase to RM8 million if the proposed sports hall and swimming pool are built.
He thanked the minister for the allocation and hoped the upgraded complex would provide a more comfortable and conducive venue for the Beaufort community, students and youths.
Also present were the Chairman of the Sabah State Sports Board, the KBSK Permanent Secretary, the Beaufort District Officer, the Beaufort Sports Complex Manager and representatives of the Klias Community Development Leader Unit.
