Task force formed to tackle Sepanggar port congestion
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has implemented 10 interim measures to ease congestion at Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP), including the formation of a task force to coordinate and monitor their implementation, said Deputy Chief Minister cum Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic).

Ewon, who is also Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister, said the Government viewed the issue seriously as it affects the logistics supply chain, operating costs and the price of goods in Sabah.

Replying to questions during the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Monday, he said the measures include expanding the container yard, introducing a Vehicle Booking System, implementing 24-hour operations by government agencies and relocating Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) operations to Kota Kinabalu Port.

Ewon said it was premature to conduct a formal performance review of DP World Sabah as the company only took over management of SBCP in September 2024 while the port expansion project was still ongoing.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He said the recent congestion was mainly due to critical capacity constraints and expansion works, rather than inefficiency by the port operator.
