KOTA KINABALU: A 21-year-old man from Lawas was killed after the Perodua Viva he was driving collided with a Perodua Alza along Jalan UMS, Sepanggar, early Saturday.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5am crash.
Lintas Fire and Rescue Station chief Noor Sherriyana Bohari said the department received an emergency call at 5.34am and dispatched 10 firefighters to the scene, about seven kilometres from the station.
“The accident involved a Perodua Viva and a Perodua Alza, which collided before veering onto the road shoulder.
“The driver of the Perodua Viva was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters used special rescue equipment to extricate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team,” she said in a statement.
The body was handed over to the police for further action.
The 57-year-old driver of the Perodua Alza escaped unhurt. The operation ended at 6.55am after firefighters ensured the road was safe for motorists.
