State rolls out 10 measures to ease Sepanggar port congestion
Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has implemented 10 interim measures to ease congestion at Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP), including the establishment of a task force chaired by Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic) to coordinate and monitor their implementation.

Replying to a question from Moyog Assemblyman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin during the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, Ewon said the measures are aimed at improving logistics efficiency, reducing operating costs and preventing higher prices of goods in Sabah.

The initiatives include expanding container yard capacity, introducing a Vehicle Booking System, enforcing stricter container storage rules, reducing the free storage period during peak seasons, relocating roll-on roll-off operations to Kota Kinabalu Port and supporting 24-hour operations by government agencies.

Ewon said the Government is also upgrading port equipment, providing additional trailer parking at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park and implementing a Berthing Window Programme to improve vessel scheduling and reduce waiting times.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He said the Ministry would continue monitoring the effectiveness of the measures to ensure smoother cargo movement and minimise logistics costs while safeguarding consumers from unnecessary price icreases.
