Kota Kinabalu: Authorities recently seized 12 containers of frozen products worth about RM3.8 million at Sepanggar Port that were falsely labelled as halal imports from Thailand but are suspected to have originated from China.

State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said 11 containers contained chicken and one contained pork, adding that about 30 similar containers have been seized since the beginning of the year.

He said this during a visit to Sepanggar Port on Sunday to inspect the seized goods.

Jamawi said a special committee involving his Ministry, the Border Control and Protection Agency, Customs and police would be formed to strengthen enforcement against food smuggling that threatens Sabah's halal food supply.
