Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy is making strides in the development of the proposed Membakut Sports Complex.
Its Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan in reply to Bongawan State Assemblyman Dr. Daud Yusof at the State Assembly sitting on Monday said they are currently focusing on determining the technical requirements and overall suitability of the site identified.

“The ministry’s next plan is to gazette the land that has been identified for this project, while the actual estimated cost and implementation period of this project will be detailed after all procedures have been followed, such as the land acquisition process, approval from the Local Authority and so on.
“This thorough assessment is crucial to ensuring the project’s long-term viability and effectiveness.
“By conducting these evaluations, the Ministry seeks to lay a solid foundation for what will surely be a significant enhancement to the community’s recreational facilities.
“Once the land acquisition and Local Authority approvals are completed, more detailed information on the project’s costs and implementation timeline will be shared with the public,” he said.

In a question raised by Sungai Manila State Assemblyman Datuk Hazem Mubarak Musa on the construction of a mini sports complex in the area, the Minister said they will consider the proposed construction project under the upcoming Malaysia Plan development project.
However, it is subject to the availability of a suitable land site and approval of allocation by the government.
He added that the distance between the Sandakan Sports Complex and Sungai Manila is close, and all sports activities from Sungai Manila can be carried out at the Sandakan Sports Complex, which is in the process of being upgraded to improve the existing facilities.
