THE State Government cannot intervene in the ownership dispute involving housing units at 1Borneo as the matter stems from a contractual disagreement between the United Sabah Islamic Association (Usia) and the project developer.
Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Fairuz Renddan (pic) said the dispute is essentially a contractual issue between the two parties and should be resolved through negotiations, mediation or the appropriate legal channels.
“The responsibility to resolve the dispute lies with the parties involved,” he said when replying to a question from Darau Assemblyman Azhar Datuk Matussin.
Azhar had asked what action the Ministry of Local Government and Housing would take to resolve the ownership issue involving Usia and the 1Borneo developer.
Fairuz said the 1Borneo housing project had already been completed and the issue did not involve an abandoned housing project.
“As such, the matter does not fall within the circumstances that would allow the Housing Controller to intervene under the relevant legal provisions for the rehabilitation of abandoned housing projects,” he said.

However, Fairuz said the Ministry remained ready to provide assistance should both parties reach an agreement or require the involvement of any government agency within its jurisdiction.
“The Ministry is always prepared to extend the necessary cooperation and assistance in accordance with the provisions of the law,” he said.
