LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) reaffirmed its long-term commitment to developing holistic human capital through its participation in the Madani Adopted School Programme, underscoring its role as a strategic partner in the education sector.
Esscom Chief Executive Officer Datuk Jamaluddin Mohd Ali said as the agency responsible for safeguarding security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), Esscom believes that the best investment in national security is the development of human capital.
“Through this programme, Esscom will implement a range of collaborative initiatives with schools, including student leadership development, safety education, civic and national awareness, security threat preparedness, volunteerism, social innovation, and character-building programmes.
“We want our children to understand that peace does not come by itself. It is a trust that must be safeguarded collectively, and that responsibility begins with instilling strong values in every individual,” he said.
He was speaking at the launch of the Esscom Madani Adopted School programme and the State-level Career, Innovation, and STEM Education Carnival (Kerinov) 2026, officiated by Sabah Assistant Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Jordan Jude Ellron, here, Saturday.
Jamaluddin said Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sepagaya has been selected as this year’s Esscom Madani Adopted School, with an allocation of RM100,000 to implement the programme.

He said that following engagement sessions involving the Sabah State Education Department, the Lahad Datu District Education Office, the school and Esscom, two key projects have been identified, namely the upgrading of the school’s multipurpose court and the maintenance of its open-air hall.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Jamaluddin said Esscom is prepared to expand the programme to districts across Sabah, subject to continued funding from the Ministry of Finance.
“Last year, we implemented the same programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lihak-Lihak in Semporna,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jordan described the selection of SMK Sepagaya as the Esscom Madani Adopted School as a positive federal government initiative to strengthen educational development in Sabah.
He added that the programme also serves as a platform to enhance cooperation between the Federal and Sabah governments, ultimately benefiting the people of the State.
