Papar: A RM70.6 million project to upgrade the Lok Kawi Road from the Sabindo Roundabout to SMK Kinarut is expected to ease congestion and improve road safety along the fast-growing Lok Kawi-Pengalat-Papar corridor.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works (KKR), approved the project to improve connectivity in an area experiencing rapid residential, commercial and tourism development.
The 1.3-kilometre project will widen the existing two-lane road into a dual two-carriageway four-lane road and include a pedestrian bridge, covered walkways, bus stops and motorcycle shelters.
Hajiji said the State Government would fully cooperate on land acquisition and utility relocation, while urging all agencies to resolve technical issues quickly to ensure the project stays on schedule.
He said the project would reduce travelling time, boost economic activity and improve connectivity in Papar, while also announcing the approval of Papar Bridge Project 2 and emergency riverbank protection works at the Kogopon River intake proposed by Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
