Kota Kinabalu: An undocumented 28-year-old man was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court on Tuesday for sexually harassing a teenage girl.
Judge Herman Hussain meted out the sentence to Jesbir Rasmin after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The court heard that Jesbir entered the 17-year-old victim’s workplace at a temple near here on July 17 and touched her private parts, prompting her to push him away and cry out in fear.
In begging for leniency, the unrepresented accused apologised for his wrongdoing and claimed he committed the offence while intoxicated.
The court also sentenced Jesbir to four months’ jail for entering the state illegally and ordered him to be referred to the Immigration Department upon completing his sentences from his July 20 arrest date.
