Kota Kinabalu: The upgraded Malaysia Public Works Laboratory (MKRM) Sabah is expected to strengthen research, testing and quality control capabilities for the construction sector in Sabah and Sarawak, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi

He said the facility, upgraded at a cost of about RM20 million through the Ministry of Economy, is now equipped with modern testing facilities under the supervision of the Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM), an agency of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia.

“MKRM Sabah can support the needs of the construction industry in Sabah and Sarawak without having to send samples to Peninsular Malaysia, which takes a considerable amount of time.
“To date, more than 1,400 construction material tests have been carried out, and the laboratory is accredited under the MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ILAC-MRA standards,” he told reporters after visiting the laboratory, here, Tuesday.
In addition, he also inspected the progress of Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway during his three-day working visit to Sabah where he was accompanied by the Ministry’s top leadership and department heads.
“The visit focuses on the progress of the Phase 1 Pan Borneo Highway, one of the Government’s key infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity in Sabah,” he said.

He added that the visit would strengthen coordination between his Ministry, the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia and the Sabah and Sarawak JKR to ensure infrastructure development projects are implemented on schedule and meet the required standards.
