The missing man has been identified as Andrew Udan.
Sipitang Fire and Rescue Station chief Desmond Ak Micky @ Dominic said the department received an emergency call via the NG999 line at 9.06am on Sunday.
A rescue team arrived at the scene at 9.29am after travelling about 38 kilometres.
The victim’s family said Andrew left home at about 2pm on July 3 with a friend to fish in the river and had informed them he would return on July 5.
When he failed to do so, his son lodged a police report at the Sipitang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 8.26pm on July 8.
Rescuers gathered information from the victim’s family before launching a search and rescue (SAR) operation in the river area.
Desmond said the operation has been hampered by the lack of Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) coverage and poor communication signals at the search site.
The victim has yet to be found, and the SAR operation is ongoing.
The operation is being conducted with the assistance of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM)
