Police deny viral vandalism arrest infographic
PENAMPANG: Police have denied the authenticity of a viral infographic on an alleged vandalism arrest, saying it was not issued by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the infographic, titled Laporan Tangkapan Kes Khianat, was fake and had misused the official PDRM logo, presentation format, as well as an individual's photograph and personal details to mislead the public.

"We confirm that the infographic is false, invalid and was not issued by the Royal Malaysia Police," he said in a statement on Friday.

Sammy warned that those involved in producing or disseminating the content could face action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, while offences under the Child Act 2001 could also apply if protected information involving a child had been used.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He urged the public not to share unverified information and asked anyone with information on those responsible for the fake infographic to contact the Penampang District Police Headquarters.
