Jafry said the Ministry is examining the proposed development, particularly the selection of a suitable location and its long-term viability.
THE State Government is studying the feasibility of building a tourism jetty in Tawau to provide an alternative route for visitors travelling by boat to the islands off Semporna, the State Legislative Assembly was told.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the Ministry is examining the proposed development, particularly the selection of a suitable location and its long-term viability.

“At the same time, the Ministry has submitted an application to the Federal Government to upgrade the Semporna Tourism Jetty, which requires improvements to accommodate the growing demand from tourists travelling to the surrounding islands,” he said.

Jafry expressed hope that the Federal Government would give favourable consideration to the application, adding that the Ministry would continue working with local authorities and the Ports and Harbours Department on matters relating to tourism jetties.
