Kota Kinabalu: Residents along the Pan Borneo Highway route in Telupid and Ranau are appealing for more time and fair compensation from the Government, with several households said to have received notices to vacate their homes to make way for the highway’s construction.

“Some of our villagers are worried and traumatised by the manner in which their houses were torn down using heavy machinery,” the community’s spokesperson, Robbin Banati (pic), told Daily Express.

“Residents were told to leave their homes, and if they did not, enforcement officers came with police to carry out the demolition,” said Robbin in his capacity as the Impacted Residents Action Body Chairman.

He said those affected include elderly, those with disabilities, women and children, many of whom now have nowhere settled to stay.
