TONGOD: The State Library's Community outreach programme should be expanded to more districts across the state to ensure the benefits of knowledge, reading culture and technology reach people regardless of their background or location, said Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib.
He said the initiative not only strengthens reading culture and literacy but also helps bridge access to knowledge and technology, particularly in rural areas, through the Sabah State Library's programmes.
His speech, delivered by his Political Secretary Justinus Jalang at the prize presentation ceremony for the State Library Community Outreach Programme in Tongod on Saturday, said libraries have evolved into centres for learning, community development and knowledge sharing.
James said the State Government would continue supporting efforts to promote reading, improve literacy and expand access to knowledge and technology through initiatives by the Sabah State Library, including the provision of digital facilities and resources statewide.
He also commended the encouraging public response to the Tongod programme, which featured reading competitions, traditional games, an Info Hunt, digital information exhibitions, science activities and other community programmes, before presenting prizes to competition winners.
