SIPITANG: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 900kg of sugar after it was allegedly stored beyond the quantity permitted under the Controlled Supply Act (CSA) licence, during an operation in Sipitang on Wednesday.
Beaufort District Enforcement Chief Jamiah Bakar confirmed the matter on Friday, saying the inspection was carried out at about 1pm at a retail business premises, here.

She said initial inspections by the Battalion 21 General Operations Force (GOF) Risk Task Force found the premises was suspected of storing sugar in excess of the quantity allowed under the conditions of its CSA licence.
Following the discovery, the case was referred to KPDN Beaufort for seizure and further investigation under the CSA 1961.
Jamiah said KPDN seized 900kg of CSR-brand sugar packed in one-kilogramme bags, along with several documents believed to be related to the case in assisting into the investigation.
She said KPDN views seriously any form of misappropriation involving controlled goods and will continue strengthening strategic cooperation with enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
“The implementation of the integrated Ops Tiris 4.0 demonstrates KPDN’s commitment together with enforcement agencies in combating the misappropriation of controlled goods and ensuring compliance with licensing conditions.
“KPDN will not compromise against any individual or party found to have violated laws relating to controlled goods,” she said.
The case is being investigated under the CSA 1961 and its related regulations to determine whether there was a breach of licence conditions or any other relevant legal provisions.
She added that KPDN Beaufort will continue intensifying the integrated Ops Tiris 4.0 with enforcement agencies to curb the misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods.
“This effort is important to ensure sufficient supplies of controlled goods, compliance with licensing requirements and to prevent leakages that could affect the interests of consumers and the country,” she said.
KPDN also urged the public to continue acting as the ministry’s eyes and ears by reporting any information on the misappropriation of controlled goods through its official channels, including the KPDN Complaint WhatsApp (019-848 8000), the e-Aduan KPDN portal, the Call Centre (1-800-886-800) and the Ez ADU KPDN application.
