SANDAKAN: Eight members of a family escaped unharmed after the rear section of their house in Kampung Sim-Sim, Jambatan 18, collapsed following strong winds on Wednesday.
The Sandakan Civil Defence Force (APM) received an emergency call at 5.59pm and immediately dispatched a team to the scene to assess the situation and ensure the occupants' safety.

Sandakan Civil Defence Officer Capt (CD) Sulaiman Salama said one officer and seven personnel, accompanied by an ambulance and a Light Rescue Vehicle (LRV), were deployed for the operation.
Investigations found that the rear portion of the house had collapsed after it was believed to have been weakened by strong winds, with the occupants saying the balcony had given way on Tuesday night before the entire rear section collapsed on Wednesday afternoon.
The operation concluded at 7.03pm after the area was declared safe.
