Kota Kinabalu: SMJK Ken Hwa Keningau delivered an impressive performance at the Sabah State Rope Jumping Championship 2026 held at Centre Point Sabah on Sunday.
The school, coached by Stephonie Dominic, sent two teams comprising 16 students accompanied by two teachers to compete in the championship organised by the Sabah Rope Jumping Association in collaboration with the Malaysian Rope Jumping Federation.

The school dominated the boys’ 13-15 Single Rope Speed Sprint (1x60s) category, with Owen Baga Ng emerging champion while teammates Charleye Khoo and Julian Lee finished second and third respectively.
Dzynia Nicollesha also contributed a gold medal after winning the girls’ 13-15 Single Rope Speed Sprint (1x60s) event.
SMJK Ken Hwa’s Team One clinched the Figure of 8 (60s) team title, while Team Two secured the runner-up position.
Following their achievements, the school earned the opportunity to represent Sabah at the National Rope Jumping Championship scheduled from Aug 20 to 22 at Sunsuria Forum Mall, Setia Alam, Shah Alam, Selangor.

The team will compete in the Speed Relay 4x30s, Figure 8 and Double Dutch Freestyle categories.
Stephonie congratulated the team, saying the success was the result of the students’ hard work and discipline during training.
She also hoped more support would be given to help develop young jump rope talents in Sabah and provide opportunities for them to compete at national and international levels.
Meanwhile, Sabah Jump Rope Association President Mary Sipaji said the competition attracted 17 entries from primary and secondary schools across Sabah.
She expressed optimism over the sport’s growth and hoped more students would take part in future competitions.
