Kota Kinabalu: A 53-year-old undocumented labourer was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for threatening to kill his ex-wife’s children and stepchildren.
Arin Andan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing criminal intimidation against one Jermahal Jawad Abunidal at 8.30pm on July 11, at a house in Kg Dambai, Inanam.
The court heard from the prosecution that Arin had sent a threatening message to his ex-wife via TikTok, threatening to kill their children and stepchildren.
Following the threat, Jermahal lodged a police report for further action.
Arin was arrested on July 13 at10.40am near the road in front of Lok Kawi Camp, Putatan.
Police also seized a handphone from him.

Unrepresented, Arin requested a lenient sentence.
The prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence and requested that Arin be referred to the Immigration Department as he is an undocumented, which was grsnted by the court.
Arin was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both, on conviction.
In another case, a 34-year-old man was fined RM2,000 or six months’ jail for assaulting another man at Kompleks Karamunsing.
Gerald Chu Kah Cheah pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing injuries to one Bryan Kung at 3.15pm on Feb 1.
The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant was at Kompleks Karamunsing when he was assaulted by Chu, also known as Acee or Aman, following a dispute over the collection of used cooking oil.
The prosecution said the complainant, who was with his wife, approached Chu and another man after seeing them taking used cooking oil from the area where he usually collected it.
When the complainant asked them not to take the oil, Chu pushed him and punched his head, causing his forehead to bleed and making him fall.
Chu then punched him again, kicked his body and punched his left ribs while he was on the ground.
Before leaving, Chu slapped the complainant and recorded him with a mobile phone while warning him not to take the oil anymore.
The complainant was later taken to hospital by his wife and lodged a police report.
Counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing Chu, pleaded for leniency, saying his client worked mainly in collecting used cooking oil and was remorseful.
Inspector Yusdi Basri applied for an adequate sentence.
Chu was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.
