TAWAU: Police have arrested a foreign man in his 40s for allegedly assaulting his former wife in Kampung Sri Menanti last month.

He said the suspect allegedly punched the victim, who is in her 30s, in the left eye and kicked several parts of her body during the incident at about 10.30pm on June 27, causing injuries before she lodged a police report.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 after police also found he did not possess valid immigration documents.

Wilynton said police viewed domestic violence seriously and urged victims or those with information on such incidents to lodge a report or contact the Tawau police hotline at 089-772121.
