A PROPOSED Welfare Rehabilitation Centre in Putatan is awaiting a suitable site after the previous location was deemed unsuitable due to high land reclamation costs, said Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki.
She said the Ministry, through the Sabah Social Welfare Services Department (JPKA), remained committed to strengthening welfare services by providing better infrastructure for the rehabilitation and protection of target groups.
“The Putatan Welfare Office has submitted an application for a new site to the relevant agencies for the development of the centre, as the previous site was unsuitable because it required high land reclamation costs,” she said when replying to Tanjung Keramat Assemblyman Shah Alfie Yahya Ahmad Shah during the State Assembly sitting on Wednesday.
Shah Alfie had urged the ministry to maintain the existing allocation for the construction of the centre, describing it as an urgent need for Putatan.
During supplementary questions, Shah Alfie said Tanjung Keramat still lacked such welfare facilities and asked about the ministry’s short-term plans to assist target groups in the constituency.
Julita said although the rehabilitation centre could not proceed until a suitable site was identified, the ministry would continue providing assistance through ongoing welfare programmes implemented by JPKA.

“If there are specific issues, they can consult the ministry and we will look into the appropriate assistance,” she said.
