TAWAU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has directed the State Disaster Control Centre to closely monitor the flood situation in Tawau, which was declared a disaster area on Saturday.
He said all relevant agencies have been mobilised to affected areas and remain on standby to provide immediate assistance, while advising residents in low-lying areas to stay alert and follow instructions from the authorities.
Earlier, the Tawau District Disaster Management Committee declared the district a disaster area after continuous heavy rain caused widespread flooding, with a temporary relief centre at the Tawau Sports Complex housing 335 evacuees from 96 families as of 11am.
