PENAMPANG: The Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) confirmed on Wednesday that a section of Jalan Kibabaig at KM 1.060 collapsed following strong water flow from nearby drainage.

In a Facebook post, the department said the stretch is not passable and motorists have been advised to use Jalan Datuk Panglima Banting as an alternative route until repairs are completed.

The incident is believed to have been triggered by continuous heavy rain in Penampang, which weakened the road structure and caused serious damage.

Deputy Chief Minister cum State Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the structure falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), which has been tasked to carry out repairs.

PWD added that further updates on the road condition and progress of repair works will be shared through its official platforms.
