Rapper Namewee claims trial to drug possession charge
KUALA LUMPUR: Rapper Wee Meng Chee (pic), better known as Namewee, pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to an additional charge of possessing Sildenafil, a prescription medication known for treating erectile dysfunction, at a hotel last year.

Namewee, 43, was accused of possessing 0.78 grammes of the medication at the premises on Jalan Conlay here at about 4.30 pm on Oct 22, 2025.

The charge was framed under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 32(2) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000, five years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

He also claimed trial to an amended charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 of possessing 1.57 grammes of methamphetamine at the same place, date and time, which is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act with a maximum fine of RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both, if found guilty.

Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim fixed March 5 for mention and maintained the RM2,000 bail previously imposed by the court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal appeared for the prosecution, while Namawee was represented by lawyer Joshua Tay.

On Dec 22 last year, Magistrate S. Arunjothy acquitted and discharged Namewee of a charge of self-administering drugs after the prosecution informed the court that they were withdrawing the charge as the pathology results were negative.
