Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has proposed that the Sabah Public Service Department establish a gallery or mini civil service museum dedicated to the office of the State Secretary.
He said the gallery could display documents, speeches and memorabilia of former State Secretaries, including records of their achievements and contributions, while serving as a reference centre for the development of the public service and a resource for students from secondary schools to higher education institutions.
Hajiji, speaking at an appreciation dinner for former State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong on Friday night, said the State Secretary is the highest-ranking position in the State Civil Service and noted that Sabah has had only 11 State Secretaries since independence 63 years ago.
He said each former State Secretary had left a distinct legacy, commending Safar for strengthening the efficiency of the State Civil Service and leading the Smart Digital Government initiative, which he said should continue to be enhanced to meet evolving needs.
Hajiji also welcomed Safar's appointment as Chairman of Tanjung Aru Eco Development Sdn Bhd (Taed), expressing confidence that the government-linked company would benefit from his experience and thanking him for his dedicated service and contributions to the State Civil Service.
