PENAMPANG: A 47-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a car along Jalan Kota Kinabalu–Papar at KM17 here at about 3.30am on Sunday, according to acting district police chief ASP Arisanti Aziz.
She said initial investigations found that the car, driven by a 22-year-old local man travelling from Kota Kinabalu towards Papar, is believed to have lost control before colliding with the victim's motorcycle.
The impact caused the motorcycle to be dragged before catching fire, while the rider was thrown onto the road and sustained severe injuries before being pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Queen Elizabeth I Hospital.
The victim's body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem, while the car driver was detained to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Arisanti urged witnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Saparia Ladoni at 019-8095133 to assist investigations and reminded the public not to share images from the scene out of respect for the victim's family.
